     The Starlight Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce the winners of the 2006 Young Artist Festival. Timothy Carder is a 15-year-old sophomore. Derek Surguy is a 17-year-old junior. Both students attend Dripping Springs High School. At the Young Artist Festival in October, 2005, Mr. Carder and Mr. Surguy earned the privilege of performing solo works with the Starlight Symphony Orchestra in concert by competing against other students in the orchestra. The performances will take place in February, 2006, at the Young Artist Showcase. The concert program will celebrate the heritage of young musicians with early works by Bach, Mozart, Arriaga, Mendelssohn, and Saint-Saens. Mr. Carder will perform Violin Concerto in f minor Op. 8 No. 4, "Winter" from The Four Seasons, by Antonio Vivaldi. Mr. Surguy, on french horn, will perform Horn Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major Op. 11 by Richard Strauss (1st movement, Allegro).

 

     Performance dates: Saturday, February 25, 7:30 P.M. at the Hays C.I.S.D. Performing Arts Center in Kyle, Texas, and Sunday, February 26, 4:00 P.M. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, Dripping Springs, Texas. For more information call 512.858.0324 or go to www.starlightsymphony.org.
